Popular Questions

Our patients often come to us with common questions and concerns. For your convenience, we've posted the most popular questions, along with their answers, here on our site. If you have a question we haven't answered, please feel free to call our practice to find out more.

How do the doctors keep up-to-date on all of the current techniques and materials?

All three doctors, Dr. Mike Golsen, Dr. Jill Golsen, and Dr. Rosie Panich subscribe to the latest industry journals to keep current on research and development in the dental industry. They take about thirty hours of continuing education courses each year, which surpasses the amount required by the state. As a team and as individuals, our office makes it our responsibility to be familiar with the latest techniques and materials available.

Can you show me what my smile can look like ahead of time with imaging software?

Yes, we can. We routinely use dental imaging to help our patients visualize the end results of cosmetic and restorative work. By simply asking the right questions, taking various photos of your current smile, and keying in the correct input into the computer, we will generate a graphic image to demonstrate accurately how your procedure will affect your smile.

How do I know when it is time to come in for a checkup?

We will send a card to remind you of your next appointment, as well as a reminder email. If we don't have your email address, please send it to us by clicking here. An average, healthy adult person typically benefits from a professional cleaning and check up every six months.

Do you accept referrals?

More than 90 percent of all new patients are referred to us by existing patients. This is what makes our practice worthwhile. We consider your referral to be the highest compliment you can give us. If the people you care about are concerned about their smile, please tell them about our dental office. Thank you for your trust and confidence. Your referrals are our greatest rewards.

Do you accept my insurance plan?

If you have a PPO dental plan we will be happy to file your insurance to directly reiburse you for dental treatment. Please ask one of our staff for more information on dental insurance coverage and/or other financing options.

What is Smile Analysis?

Each person has a unique "perfect" smile; one proportional and flattering to his or her face. At Golsen Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we will perform a smile analysis to determine what your best smile can look like.

What is Smile Design?

The highlight of smile design is watching your eyes light up the first time you look in the mirror at the change that has taken place. Your new smile will probably change your entire look, perhaps making you look even years younger. We see an immediate change in patients' confidence and their interaction with others. When patient lives are changed in such drastic measures, it confirms the reason many of us got involved in dentistry in the first place, which is to help others.

I do not like drills. Are there any other options?

Yes, at Golsen Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we use a relatively new filling preparation technique using a laser called “WaterLase," which removes decay and prepares teeth for restorations. One of the doctors will simply clean out and prepare the site to be filled by sending a blast of high-speed water particles into the cavity itself. The particles hit the tooth under high pressure, bounce off at high speeds, and consequently blast away any decay. WaterLase is quiet, quick, relatively painless and avoids sacrificing tooth structure.

My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something to be concerned about?

It is certainly not desirable to have bleeding gums following brushing. Sometimes it can signify more advanced periodontal disease. At other times, it can be caused by improper brushing techniques. If bleeding gums persist despite correct brushing and flossing methods or occurs every time you brush, contact our office to set up an evaluation appointment. We want you to keep your teeth for life, and having healthy gums is crucial to that goal.

How can I ask the doctors questions directly?

We encourage our patients to have open, direct communication with all the doctors, but most likely when you have a question that you want answered rather quickly, it will be Dr. Mike Golsen who will answer your calls and emails. Please send your question to gfd@golsen.com or call us at 770-667-0669.
